The Challenge
Film photography apps just slap filters on digital photos. They miss the entire experience — the intentionality of limited exposures, the anticipation of development time, the tactile feel of different cameras and film stocks.
The Approach
Designed a complete film photography simulation, not a filter app. 9 authentic film stocks spanning 1975 Kodachrome to 1990s disposables, each with distinct color profiles and grain. Period-accurate camera UIs from different eras. 24-hour photo "development" mimicking real darkroom timing. Authentic imperfections — light leaks, dust, scratches, date stamps. Limited exposures per roll with no deletion. Contact sheets for viewing developed rolls.
The Result
Available on iOS and Android. Every design decision reinforces intentionality — no instant gratification, no undo, no filters. The constraints are the product.
